Indigenous jewellery was made from naturally available materials like animal teeth, bone, various kinds of shells, carved wood and stone. What started out as a functional item was later adapted as a decorative ornament and spiritual & protection symbol. Bones to be turned into jewellery with beads making bracelet & neckless.

Materials used for this 2 rows bracelet are bones, glass beads, silver bullet, deer leather.

 

Diane Montreuil is an Algonquin Metis visual artist, educator, curator. She has the position of Art & Culture at the MNOC – Métis Nation of Canada where she sits on the Board of Directors since 2016.  In 2019 Diane was appointed by the TCDSB (Toronto Catholic District School Board) as their Knowledge Keeper/Elder in Residence & part of the Indigenous Advisory Council.  2018 to present, Diane speaks on Indigenous Culture and holds Art classes in many schools in the GTA.  Diane’s Artwork is currently circulated in Canada, USA & Europe, and will be on view at the Miles Nadal JCC from August 2 – 28, 2024.
