PJ Library and the MNjcc invite you to celebrate Shabbat at the J! For children ages 0-4 with their grown-ups.
Have you ever wondered what it would be like to sit down to a plate of darkness and light, or to taste the sun, moon and stars? Step into a world of enchantment and embark on a culinary experience like no other!
As we delve into Parashat Bereshit, the starting point of our Torah journey, we invite you to join us for an extraordinary event commemorating the 70th Anniversary of the Miles Nadal Jewish Community Centre. Join renowned chef Jennifer E. Crawford for a 7-course dinner, designed to reflect the seven days of the Jewish creation story. Reserve your seat today and be part of this unforgettable celebration of tradition, creativity, and the enduring legacy of our MNjcc.
About Chef Crawford:
Since winning MasterChef Canada in 2019, Crawford’s work has been featured by The New York Times, Food and Wine Magazine, the CBC, and more. They’re a chef, writer, show host, pro-wrestler, and feeler of big feelings. They’ve written for publications across the country and produced and starred in the CBC documentary Bump and Feed which chronicles the path to their pro-wrestling supper club. They’ve been working on a forthcoming book, which is honestly much harder and taking years longer than they’d ever imagined.
Initially enthralled by Crawford’s precision and whimsical culinary mind, MasterChef viewers then connected meaningfully with their heart: candid and honest reflections about PTSD, sobriety, gender, neurodivergence, and the joy of expressing imagination through food.
Jennifer won MasterChef Canada 2019 with a thrilling menu of Ants on a Log, Mary’s Little Lamb, and Treat Cereal — artful versions of their cherished childhood favourites. Their mastery of fusing technique with magic is undeniable, and their enthusiasm for delicious food is just as infectious. They’ve worked with some of the best chefs in the country, selling out their highly instagrammed Treat Cereal Pop-Up, delivering keynotes on authenticity, creativity and mental health, delicious workshops, and more.
Some of their most treasured and recent food memories are inextricable from their Judaism – their final video project, “Shabbat dinner with Dad,” for their b’mitzvah with the Winchevsky school in 2022, making pop-tarts with the Museum of Jewish Montreal, and sharing the sweetness of milk and honey for Shavuot with ADRABA’s Chosen Food class. They’re thrilled and honoured to memory-make with you, at the MNjcc.
This will be a dry event and the meal will be kosher style.
