With Fatherland, Paweł Pawlikowski picks up where he left off with his award-winning Ida and Cold War, in a story of exile, family, and guilt in post-war Europe. Sandra Hüller (Project Hail Mary, Anatomy of a Fall, The Zone of Interest) stars as Erika, daughter of Nobel Prize-winning writer Thomas Mann (Hanns Zischler). In the summer of 1949, at the height of the Cold War, father and daughter embark on an emotional road trip through a devastated Germany, travelling from US-controlled Frankfurt to Soviet-controlled Weimar. Returning after sixteen years of exile in America, Thomas Mann confronts a divided homeland and deep fractures within his own family.
