A listen-and-learn roundtable discussion exploring the great range of Jewish musical expression in Canada over the last century.

Category

Join Ashkenaz at York University on Sunday April 16, 3pm, for this listen-and-learn roundtable discussion exploring the great range of Jewish musical expression in Canada over the last century.

Expert panelists offer insight on three Jewish musical cultures from three distinct moments, with recorded audio samples and commentary: our own Artistic Director Eric Stein will cover pre-WWII Yiddish immigrant musical worlds, McGill University professor Christopher Silver will look at post-war Sephardi/Moroccan immigrant musical worlds, and Concordia University Professor Miranda Crowdus will examine the contemporary Montreal/Canadian musical scene with its hybrid mix of immigrant musical worlds. Facilitated discussion and open-floor Q&A to follow. Join us for an exciting late afternoon of sound and sense.

The event is FREE but registration is required.
