Looking to explore a unique Jewish culture through language? The opportunity to learn Yiddish online this fall is here! Whether you’re looking to connect with your family’s heritage, act out a Yiddish play, or study Yiddish texts as a fluent speaker, we’ve got a class for everyone.

Comprehensive Yiddish Language Classes

Learn, refresh, and improve your speaking, reading, and writing language skills with experienced instructors in a fun and stimulating learning environment.

Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced Yiddish Language Levels

Special Interest Yiddish Classes at Miles Nadal JCC

Conversational Yiddish for Beginners
Thursdays, 7:00 pm – 8:30 pm EDT | Oct. 15 – Dec. 17, 2020
Learn to speak a little Yiddish while engaging with the rich world of Yiddish history and culture.
10 Classes | Cost: $250 plus HST

Canadian Yiddish Literature
Wednesdays, 7:00 pm – 8:30 pm EDT | Oct .14 – Dec. 16, 2020
In this intermediate-level course, we will read and discuss selections of poetry and short stories by Canadian Yiddish writers. Conducted largely in Yiddish, with some discussion in English.
Prerequisites: Students must be able to read alef-beys. Suggested 1-2 years of prior Yiddish study.
10 Classes | Cost: $250 plus HST

Theatre Workshop
Tuesdays, 7:00 pm – 8:30 pm EDT | Oct.13 – Dec.15, 2020
Theatrical workshop facilitated by award-winning performer, director, and playwright, David Gale. Students will work with original and transliterated Yiddish plays in a fun and engaging setting. No performance experience is required. All levels of Yiddish welcome!

Third Tuesday of each month, 7:30pm – 9:00pm EDT
Participants will read and discuss short stories in Yiddish, with text provided.
