Toronto is at the heart of a global cultural movement. Within this lies Toronto’s Jewish story, whose importance and depth have the ability to inspire and enrich the lives of all. Our story, rooted in five thousand years of lived history, philosophy, culture, art and language is as relevant today as it has ever been.  The Jewish Diaspora has influenced the development of the cultural heritage of the Jewish people. This has helped to create a rich and diverse cultural mosaic, drawing inspiration from all corners of the world including Europe, North Africa, the Americas and Israel.

Driven by this understanding, a network of modern Jewish Arts, Culture and Heritage organizations, have coalesced to create the Kultura Collective, to provide experiential and participatory opportunities for cultural enrichment, intellectual growth, exploration, and spiritual fulfillment to all, across Toronto and beyond.

The name Kultura Collective is inspired by the Kultur-Lige, an interwar collective that promoted Jewish culture and community across Eastern Europe and that was destroyed at the height of its reach and impact. The Kultura Collective draws inspiration from this important period in Jewish cultural history in one part of the world, while juxtaposing it into a contemporary context and acknowledging the breadth and globalized nature of Jewish culture in all its guises and its power to connect and elevate hearts, minds and whole communities.

It is through visual arts, music, theatre, film, history, literature, dance and more that we come closer to our own Jewish identity and experience, and we transcend and deepen our own connections to others and the world. The Kultura Collective enables Jewish arts, culture and heritage to transform and enrich more lives across Toronto and beyond.

About the UJA Federation of Greater Toronto

UJA Federation’s mission is to preserve and strengthen the quality of Jewish life in Greater Toronto, Canada, Israel and around the world through philanthropic, volunteer and professional leadership. Year after year, UJA’s Annual Campaign allows UJA to care for our most vulnerable; build and strengthen Jewish identity and education, invest in Israel and overseas, and promote Jewish/Israel advocacy, while also creating infrastructure throughout the GTA that serves not only the Jewish community, but the community-at-large.

The strength of Toronto’s Jewish community is its commitment to core Jewish values, including our deep commitment to Israel, and our dedication to Tikkun Olam, serving the most vulnerable in our community. UJA Federation touches so many of the lives of our diverse and vibrant community, celebrating Jewish life, standing up for the Jewish homeland, and inspiring younger generations to explore their connection to their roots.
