The “Swinging Sixties” swept across the West like a tsunami, bringing with it a torrent of powerful personalities and events.
He’s back! After winning rave reviews for his courses on Great Buildings of the 20th and 21st Centuries, former Toronto Star architecture critic Christopher Hume returns to the Al Green Theatre to explore the colourful stories and fascinating careers of history’s most influential architects.
Tackling new architects, eras and buildings that we didn’t cover in his popular recent courses, Hume will take us on a lively journey from the Classical pioneers and Renaissance masters who invented architecture as we know it today to the modern giants, from Frank Lloyd Wright to Rem Koolhaas, who have expanded its potential as a tool for creative expression.
Closing with a spirited survey of Toronto’s most influential architects, Hume will draw on his personal encounters and interviews with the field’s leading visionaries to explore the unique blend of artistic innovation and ruthless practicality at the heart of their discipline, allowing them to bring a new sense of humanity to our buildings and our cities.
