Official Selection, Venice Film Festival. French filmmaker Claude Lanzmann famously criticized Schindler’s List, saying that “fiction is a transgression” and that “any representation of the Holocaust is prohibited.”
Michal Kosakowski’s monumental documentary explores the gap between Lanzmann’s beliefs and the numerous fictional films about the Holocaust made since 1938. By editing together scenes from more than 3,000 films into a captivating montage, Kozakowski invites viewers to reflect on how movies shape our collective memory of unimaginable horrors.
