Professor Joshua A. Fogel In Conversation with Professor Kalman Weiser on The Translation of the Leksikon fun der nayer yidisher literatur

Professor Joshua Fogel, an expert in Chinese and Japanese history, put aside his mainline scholarly work – more or less – for six or seven years to translate 7,100 biographies from the Leksikon fun der nayer yidisher literatur. By putting the entries online, he has made accessible to the English-reading universe an essential reference work about Yiddish literature and culture that was previously little-known outside of experts. Historian and Yiddish scholar Kalman Weiser will be in conversation with Josh about what motivated him to undertake such a mammoth task, his experience as a translator, and what is to be gained and lost in such an endeavour.

This Program Will Be In English.
