The JAM-Ex theme this year is Jewish Music Around The World, and we know you will enjoy viewing these creative art pieces from gifted students.
A Matter of Taste is a digital exhibition on Koffler Digital, presented by the Koffler Centre of the Arts, that uses food, and the cultures that surround it, to examine our relationships to one another, society and the world at large. The exhibition invites a number of artists and writers to present their personal perspectives on questions such as where does our food come from, who prepares it, who consumes it, how do we remember it, what have we forgotten, what is there yet to learn?
As you explore the 21 visual, sound and written works in A Matter of Taste, you will encounter artists and writers who fix their gaze on individual ingredients, like za’atar or kimchi, and others who travel across timelines to conjure stories of their parents and grandparents’ kitchens and gardens, and more still who take up issues such as consumption, waste, scarcity, appropriation and access.
The food discussed throughout this exhibition, whether Costco cakes, canned pigeon peas or frozen caribou, embody a different kind of nourishment, each alchemized by its author into an acquaintance, an education, a diplomacy, an inquiry. May you find some sustenance here.
