Jewish Music Week is an exciting week of concerts, recitals and musical events throughout the Greater Toronto Area.
On Sunday, December 18th, the first night of Chanukah, the main parking lot of Lawrence Plaza will be transformed to a holiday performance space for the 2nd Annual Lawrence Plaza Chanukah Extravaganza.
Soundstage, lights, and a giant projection screen turn the lot into a concert venue, with plenty of room for the throngs of excited audience members to gather, dance, and sing along.
The family-friendly event begins with a community candle-lighting on a huge menorah, followed by a music program featuring a powerhouse line-up of musical stars. This year’s musical guests include the four main cast members of Jersey Boys, led by Jeff Madden who gained critical acclaim playing Frankie Valli. Also performing are world-renowned British entertainer Simon Spiro and Canadian music theatre star Gabi Epstein. Accompanying the singers is an all-star swing orchestra, comprised of such legendary jazz musicians as John MacLeod and Sasha Boychouk, among others.
Attendees can enjoy traditional Chanukah fare of hot potato latkes, sufganiyot donuts, and chocolate gelt coins, and children will receive free toys to take home. In between the musical performances, select local dignitaries will offer greetings from the stage.
The Lawrence Plaza Chanukah Extravaganza is free and made possible by Lawrence Plaza and private sponsors. Many of the local shops within the Plaza are involved, donating merchandise to add to the festivities.
The Lawrence Plaza Chanukah Extravaganza is produced by Simon and Aliza Spiro, the creative team that has brought the Jewish experience to Toronto through spectacular musical theatre productions and history making musical broadcasts that reached hundreds of thousands of people throughout the Pandemic.
