FilmMatters, is the Toronto Jewish Film Foundation’s educational outreach programme for elementary – secondary school students and teachers across the GTA.
The Consulate General of Israel in Toronto & Western Canada is pleased to announce the participation of internationally-acclaimed filmmaker Yonatan Nir in an exclusive moderated discussion on his debut documentary film Dolphin Boy.
Dolphin Boy follows the rehabilitative journey of Morad, a teenage boy who suffers from severe post-traumatic stress following a massive malicious physical trauma. As a coping mechanism to deal with the immense pain of the memory, Morad disassociates himself from his own personhood and the world around him. Following many unsuccessful attempts at conventional rehabilitation methods, Morad and his father turn to an unorthodox form of therapy: dolphins. Morad is left to spend time in Eilat’s dolphin reef, where the dolphins help Morad with profound post-traumatic healing. Dolphin Boy was a Hot Docs Festival Official Selection in 2011.
This is the Consulate’s third Yonatan Nir film screening and webinar program. Previously, the Consulate screened My Hero Brother and The Essential Link: The Story of Wilfrid Israel. These titles are available by rental on Vimeo.
Dolphin Boy will be accessible to view freely from March 17 – 24 through this link: https://vimeo.com/yonatannir/db-toronto
The event will take place in a Zoom webinar format on Wednesday, March 24 from 7:30-9:00pm EST. Registration for the event through Eventbrite. Zoom link will be sent out to all those who RSVP the day before the event.
