Award winning author Weina Dai Randel brings to life her recent historical novels: Night Angels (2023) and The Last Rose of Shanghai (2021). Night Angels is based on a remarkable true story of Dr. Ho Fengshan, consul general of China and his American wife, Grace who issued thousands of visas that helped Jews escape Vienna before World War II exploded. From the electrifying jazz clubs to the impoverished streets of a city under siege, The Last Rose of Shanghai is a timeless story of love and redemption as Aiyi Shao, a young heiress, and Ernest Reismann, a penniless Jewish refugee driven out of Germany, navigate seemingly insurmountable differences in their quest to be together.

Ms. Randel is the winner of the RWA RITA Award, A National Jewish Book Awards finalist, and a two-time Goodreads Choice Award finalist. Her books have been translated into twelve languages including Hebrew, Russian, and Spanish. All are welcome.

The conversation will be moderated by University of Toronto-Scarborough Associate Professor Liang-Hsuan Chen.

Immediately following the talk, all attendees are invited to a dessert reception and book signing with the author and fellow attendees. The reception is generously sponsored by UJA Genesis.

Supported by the Kolel Legacy Fund at the Jewish Foundation.
