Fiddler on the Roof began in 1894 with the Yiddish stories of Tevye by Sholem Aleichem, and grew into one of Broadway’s most cherished classics. In recent years, it returned to its roots in a revelatory Yiddish-language production from the National Yiddish Theatre Folksbiene, directed by the legendary Joel Grey.

What began as a downtown experiment became a New York sensation, uncovering new emotional depth and urgency in the language of its origins.

Hosted by Harold Green Jewish Theatre Company Artistic Director David Eisner and Avery Saltzman, this dynamic webinar explores the extraordinary revival of Fiddler and why its themes of tradition, displacement, resilience, and family feel more resonant than ever.

This program also offers a preview of the Harold Green Jewish Theatre Company’s upcoming Toronto production of the Yiddish Fiddler on the Roof (with English subtitles), playing May 25–June 7 at the Elgin Theatre — a rare opportunity to experience this extraordinary revival firsthand.

A stirring celebration of tradition, language, and the enduring power of great storytelling.
