Purim Poetry Comics—You don’t have to be able to write poems or draw comics to make a Purim Poetry Comic strip! Poetry Comics is a hybrid form that presents the compressed, evocative language of a poem within the illustrated panel or sequence of a comic. We’re going to use found text and found images to make our own commentaries on Megillat Esther —the scroll of Esther—and to see what new meanings emerge when the words and images play off each other. If you’re feeling inspired, there will be tips for developing this practice with your own words and images, too.
What to Bring—Ten found images. These could be: clippings from magazines; Tarot or similar cards; art historical images; pages from picture books; images you’ve made; anything else that captures your imagination; Post-it notes; Pen/pencil.
Sharoni Sibony’s eclectic career spans art, literature, education, and community organizing. Among other things, she currently works as the Adult Education Coordinator at Holy Blossom Temple and is training in the Jewish Studio Project’s Creative Facilitation Training program.
Show off your costumes at our celebratory Purim Cabaret, featuring comedy, poetry, music and drag.
We’ll be closing out the night with a Dance Party
