The JCC is seeking a talented and dedicated Ceramics Instructor to teach students of all ages and skill levels. Role Summary:
In this role, you’ll design and deliver engaging lessons, demonstrating hand-building and wheel-throwing techniques while teaching students about various clays, glazes, and firing processes. You’ll assess student progress, offer feedback, and ensure a safe, organized studio environment. Maintaining equipment, including kilns, and supervising ceramic volunteers will also be key aspects of the role. You’ll be responsible for keeping up to date records for program management, and reporting in a timely manner. With your expertise and leadership, you’ll help cultivate a vibrant and creative ceramics community at the JCC.
Key Responsibilities include:
- Design and prepare inspiring lesson plans for a wide range of age and ability levels.
- Instruct students in the use of hand-building and wheel-throwing techniques.
- Demonstrate and explain the use and properties of various clays and glazes.
- Supervise/instruct Ceramics classes for youth aged 5 to 18, and adults.
- Assess students’ progress and provide feedback.
- Maintain accurate records of attendance.
- Ensure compliance with current health and safety legislation and equipment best practices.
- Supervise and train ceramic volunteers.
- Maintain program records – including attendance, and volunteer hours.
- Ensure proper care and maintenance of kilns, equipment, and overall studio/program spaces.
What do you bring?
- A relevant degree or qualification in Ceramics.
- 2+ years of experience in teaching ceramics in an educational environment.
- Experience in inclusion-programming is an asset.
- Strong understanding of materials, processes and techniques used in ceramics.
- Confidence in upholding health and safety standards for workplace and ceramics specific.
- Demonstrated experience in customer service.
- Strong organizational and technological skills.
- Availability for evenings and Sundays programs.
- Experience in not-for-profit environments is an asset
- A commitment to building Jewish Community.
