At the end of the Second World War, Nathan Hilu, the son of Syrian Jewish immigrants, received a life-changing assignment from the U.S. Army to guard the top Nazi war criminals at the Nuremberg trials. This experience fuelled a lifetime of artistic inspiration for Nathan, who spent the next 70 years obsessively creating a visual narrative from his memories. But what happens when those memories take on a life of their own?
The encounters that changed his life recur again and again in his artwork with vivid clarity: conversations with Albert Speer, a long kiss between Göring and his wife, words he said to each of the accused before leading them to the gallows.
Nathan-ism is a fascinating look at one man’s need to share truths with a world that does not always want to listen.
Director Elan Golod will join us remotely for a Q&A following the screening.
