Using interviews and archival recordings this film meticulously links the story of American Yiddish creativity with Guthrie’s art as rooted in the Oklahoma Dust Bowl of the 1930s.
TJFF presents an encore presentation of the special curated series exploring how the screen persona of actor Saul Rubinek emerged in some of his earliest roles on Canadian television. Offering a soulfulness and sponteineity to the role of the ‘Other,’ the actor brought to life an outsider as never before seen on Canadian screens. This is a FREE online screening series full of rare titles from the CBC archive—Rubinek as small-town detective Benny Cooperman investigating a crime in Algonquin Park; early pilots featuring Saul alongside Martin Short, Eugene Levy and Dave Thomas from their pre-SCTV days; and more.
All titles available to view online for free across Canada.
